Wave helps fight Covid-19!

Hello dear reader!

We are living right now in very dark and uncertain times. It is amazing to see that what we believed is a modern and capable world has been taken over by a virus which we cannot seem to fight. The virus is taking a deep impact on everything we do, from our life and our work to the relationship with our loved ones. It is also taking it’s toll on the lives on many people, as it has taken away loved ones. I offer my most sincere condolences to all of you, specially all of you who are suffering a loss in these dreadful days. My heart goes out to you.

Whilst there is a huge philosophical debate as to what will be left after this pandemic and what kind of world we will return to, one thing is clear, everything has changed. Only time will tell what a post Covid-19 reality looks like.

The only thing that seems to help is social distancing and staying at home, it is the best way to protect those we hold dearest and who are most vulnerable to the virus, our elders. With that in mind we have released a huge update to Wave which has launched on iOS and will be coming to Android in the coming days. This update has two main new features you can access through the main screen.

You’ll notice two new icons, “Stay at home” and “Help the World”. Lets dive into how they work.

Help the World

This is a direct integration with GeoDB’s AidSquad feature, you can read about it here. The main idea is that it gives you the ability to share your symptoms in a completely anonymous way and receive karma points which will allow you to make donations to a charitable cause of your liking. This will enable the creation of a distributed map of the spread of the virus and track down the real impact of Covid 19. Karma points can be accessed via the profile, as shown in the screenshots below.

Stay At Home

Stay at home bannerThis is a cool new feature which establishes a geofence around your house and tracks everytime you enter or leave it. This is all done automatically, you don’t need to touch anything. You can share a badge with the amount of times you have left your house on social media and compete with your friends to be the one who stays at home more and therefore stays safe. We can’t wait to see what you think of this feature. It is our way of contributing to this difficult situation with what we know best, geolocation. This is how it works:

Please stay safe and take care of your loved ones.

Thank you for reading,

Until next time!
