Amazon has just announced it is launching its new device: Amazon Fire TV. This new gizmo comes in the form of a small box that connects to our HDTV via an HDMI cable and turns it into a complete entertainment centre. It is available from this Wednesday in United States with a price tag of 99$.
Fire TV allows you to access online movie and entertainment services such as Netflix, Hulu Plus or Showtime with a video quality of 1080p. Without forgetting the Amazon Instant video Service which gives access to 200 000 movies and episodes.
The greatest differentiator in this area compared to the competition is the ability to use voice search from its remote, thus making the use of the annoying on-screen keyboards a thing of the past.
It also boasts great connectivity with Kindle tablets, allowing the Tablet to work as a second screen showing more information or even continuing the video playback.
Perhaps the most interesting point is that it is able to play videogames. Amazon believes this will be the way to bring “App like” games with high quality and low price tags to the living room. They are even selling a gaming controller for those who want a hardcore gaming unit. The truth is, if they succeed at this, there is no doubt this device will have a lot to say

What do you think of this move? Do you believe Amazon has done what Apple started but didn’t finish?
